Biography

John is a frequent ICLE Presenter for the Georgia Bar’s Family Law Institute and a previous speaker at ABA Family Law Section seminars.  He is a native Georgian who graduated with High Honors from Auburn University in 1971 and was commissioned a Distinguished Military Graduate.  He then graduated from the University of Georgia’s Lumpkin School of Law in 1974 and was admitted to the Georgia Bar.  John served 22 years of active duty as an Air Force Staff Judge Advocate.  Among his most notable assignments was as Chief Military Counsel to the Director, National Security Agency; and, Deputy Staff Judge Advocate to Army General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, Jr during Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield.  In 1995, he began his private law practice in Central Georgia and focused on Domestic Relations involving members of the uniformed services and federal civilian employees. John frequently serves as an expert witness and as a consultant in the field of Military and Civil Service Divorce.  John is a 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 Super Lawyer in Domestic Relations—Family Law.

John’s service and leadership in in the Georgia Bar Association includes: Serving as Chair of the Georgia Bar’s Military and Veterans Law Section; twice honored by the Georgia Bar Association’s Board of Governors for Community Service and Leadership; and, the recipient of the Marshal-Tuttle Award from the State Bar for outstanding service to the Military and Veterans Community.  John is also a member of the Florida Bar and the Bar of the United States Supreme Court.
